MOVEMENT EXPRESSIONS

Transformative Therapy for Every Stage of Life

About

WHERE MOVEMENT MEETS HEALING

Welcome to Movement Expressions, where therapy meets movement in a space designed to nurture, heal, and empower individuals at every stage of life. Our approach integrates verbal counselling with dance/movement therapy (DMT) techniques to facilitate emotional, cognitive, and physical well-being.  Offering a unique blend of therapeutic techniques that best fits the individual to meet them where they are in their change and growth journey.

Our Therapeutic Approach

Integrating MIND and BODY for Deeper CONNECTION

At Movement Expressions, we understand that each individual’s journey is unique. Our therapy is rooted in the belief that movement can be a powerful tool for self-exploration, healing, and growth. We integrate dance/movement therapy (DMT) with verbal counselling, grounded in client-centred and trauma-informed approaches. This ensures that each session is tailored to the individual’s needs, providing a safe and supportive environment for processing emotions and experiences.

DMT operates on the principle that the mind and body are interconnected; through movement, we can access and process emotions, thoughts, and experiences in a profound way. By combining this with verbal counselling, we offer a holistic framework for individuals to explore and express their inner world, fostering deeper understanding and personal growth.

Voices of TRANSFORMATION and HEALING

“My father has Parkinsons and we know that exercise is the best medicine for him. That is why we are blessed to have Krista in our father’s life. When she started working with him Krista took the time to personalize his care specifically for him. From the choice of music to the exercise routines.  Her professionalism comes with a great sense of humour and a great deal of compassion towards our father.  After his regular 9 month check-up, his doctor was very impressed that there was very little decline in his mobility. Not only has Krista been able to slow the progression of his Parkinsons, she has brought him much joy and independence. Our father walks taller, smiles more and is more confident with himself.

Krista has exceeded our expectations of the movement therapy she provides.”

My Mom Sophia is 96 years old, wheelchair bound, has very limited mobility, has increasing dementia, Alzheimers. Sophia was a victim and a survivor of WWII, and the emotional and mental pains and struggles are still with her daily.

Sophia is still very smart, has excellent eye vision and hearing, still has a keen sense of smell and taste. Sophia loves to meet and talk with people, and especially loves to sing but now has difficulty.  Sophia needs to feel she has self-worth, she needs to feel she has a purpose and an accomplishment very day. Enduring the Covid restrictions Sophia became more physically limited, sad, fearful, lonely, anxious.

Krista has become the ‘bright happy light’ for Sophia.  Krista’s expertise, intuitiveness, compassion has comforted Sophia, made her feel safe. Sophia has allowed herself to voice and release some deep hurts that she keeps hidden.  The vocal music Krista plays and sings to, connects Sophia with her cultural heritage, increases her happiness, relaxation, and facilitates gentle exercise for her mobility without Sophia feeling physically defeated because of her body stiffness.

Sophia starts to feel joyful, sings, encourages more singing. Sophia says she feels her feet are dancing.

This makes my heart so very grateful to Krista, and for seeing my Mom Sophia shine with happiness!

Thank you Krista!

Before I started working with Krista, I was feeling completely overwhelmed by everything—school stress, figuring out my future, and just life in general. Krista’s sessions were like a breath of fresh air. She has this amazing way of making you feel at ease, and the movement exercises we did really helped me get out of my head and just be present. I never realized how much moving could help me process what I was feeling. Plus, talking things through with her gave me new perspectives on how to handle my stress and make decisions about my career path. Every time I left a session, I felt lighter and more capable of dealing with whatever was coming my way. Krista has seriously helped me find some balance and confidence during a really tough time.”

~ University Student

Krista came into my classroom to lead a workshop on building empathy and reducing bullying through dance/movement therapy. From the moment she started, she had the students fully engaged and participating in ways I hadn’t seen before. Her ability to connect with each child and create a safe, inclusive environment was remarkable. Through the ‘Disarming the Playground’ curriculum, she helped the students understand their emotions and the importance of empathy in a way that was both fun and deeply impactful. I noticed a significant positive shift in how the students interacted with each other after the workshop. They were more mindful, supportive, and aware of their actions. Krista’s workshop was a game-changer for our classroom dynamics. I highly recommend her to any school looking to foster a more empathetic and understanding environment.
